Wireless Internet Access at KFL
The Kennebunk Free Library is proud to offer wireless
internet access. This service is available, free of charge, to
any member of the public who brings in their wireless-enabled
laptop computer. Please read the following sections before using KFL's
wireless internet connection. Use of our wireless network
indicates that you have read and agreed to the conditions in
both the Computer Acceptable Use Policy and the Wireless
Internet Confidentiality Disclaimer.
- Many newer laptops come with a built-in wireless adapter.
If you have one of these laptops, your computer will
automatically detect KFLs Internet connection as soon as you
turn it on inside the Library.
- If your laptop doesnt have wireless Internet capability
built in, however, you will need to purchase a wireless card
and install it on your laptop before you can use our internet
connection.
- Once you plug the wireless card into your laptop and
follow the installation instructions on the screen, you are
ready to go! No usernames or passwords required!
- Wireless printing is not available via this service. If
you need to print, please save to a disk or email files to
yourself, then login to a library workstation and send your
print jobs to the printer.
- Please note that due to limited insurance and liability,
the Library staff are unable to assist you with your personal
laptop, card or configurations.
Wireless Internet Confidentiality Disclaimer
KFLs wireless internet service is configured to allow your
computer to automatically detect and use the link without need
for a password or any configuration of your computer.
However, you should be aware that under this arrangement, your
interaction over the wireless network is not encrypted and
could be intercepted by someone using network "sniffer"
software. Avoid entering credit card numbers, passwords or any
other information you consider confidential unless you are
certain that the web site you are interacting with provides
its own security mechanism, such as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
encoding. An SSL- protected web page is usually indicated by a
small lock icon display along the lower edge of your browser
window. Use of this wireless connection is entirely at the
risk of the user and the library disclaims all liability for
loss of confidential information or damages resulting from
that loss.
