Hank's Room Application

Exhibiting Artwork in Hank's Room

Guidelines for Artwork Exhibitions

Please read this section fully before filling out the application.

The Kennebunk Free Library offers Hank's Room in the lower level for ongoing displays of art (paintings, drawings, and photographs) by local artists of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Wells, and Arundel as well as those who work but may not reside in the above towns. This is a community service offered by the Library and the Library does not charge fees or commissions should patrons purchase items displayed.

The following are the rules which will govern such displays:

  1. The Library Director or designee must individually approve the works displayed. As the exhibition will be in a room regularly used for children's programs, approval of items for display will be governed by this consideration. Nudes, scenes suggesting violence, etc., cannot be displayed.
  2. The artist will be required to affix a card to the individual item displayed identifying it by name and the name of the artist. No cards or other notices may be affixed to the walls. All such identification will be placed on the frame of the item displayed. Duplicate cards or a complete inventory of work to be displayed must be supplied to the Library.
  3. The Library will not deal in the sale of any item exhibited. The artist will provide patrons wishing to purchase any item with the means of contacting the artist directly for such purpose. Prices will not be displayed.
  4. The Library will exercise all possible diligence in protecting artwork on display, but cannot accept any responsibility for loss or damage to these works. Each artist will be required to execute and provide the Library Director with an Exhibit Release Form (sample attached).
  5. The artist will be responsible for the installation and dismantling of artworks at times and dates agreed to in advance with the Library Director. The Library will supply wires and tools for hanging works, but cannot supply labor.
  6. Before installation of their show, the artist is responsible for providing information to the Library for publicity. The Library will prepare in-house notices and send a listing of the show to the media. Any additional publicity is the responsibility of the artist.
  7. In the event an artist wishes to host an opening reception, approval must be secured first from the Library Director. All arrangements and expenses for a reception are the responsibility of the artist.
